I love the zoo where I live(St. Louis) It's an awesome zoo, plus entry to the zoo itself is free. It costs to park but its not an unreasonable amount. Right now the zoo has 2 baby elephants, a litter of baby cheetahs, a baby king penguin, and a baby kangaroo. The zoo's website shows a lot of the amenities that the zoo has...many of which are free. Also the St. Louis Zoo is located in Forest Park, so there is a lot around it to do...such as visiting the Science Center, The Art Museum, The Muny, and more.

You know after I went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park and heard about all the great things they have done with endangered species breeding that wouldn't breed in zoos, I have been jaded towards them. It's hard to feel good about watching an animal in a space that is a 10th of what their normal environment is. Plus all the issues with undue stress and disease on zoo animals.

I used to like zoos, but now they just make me sad. Check out a wild animal park if you want to see animals in their natural habitat. You may not see all of them, but you will be sending the message to zoos worldwide about how cruel the environment is that they put their animals in.

If you're in the area, try the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. They feature large, amazingly built habitats for the endangered species they're breeding. Some examples are: Mexican Wolves, Snow Leopards, Mountain Gorillas, Orangutans, and Black-Footed Ferrets. This zoo is located halfway up a mountain and offers a stunning view of Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas!

The San Diego Zoo is excellent, as is the Brookfield Zoo outside of Chicago. New York's Central Park Zoo is also quite good, and we shouldn't forget my own favorite, the Ka--Zoo.

The San Diego zoo is the best zoo I have ever been too. I've made several trips down there over the past several years just to see the pandas. :)

Of all the zoos I have been to the top three are listed below along with why I selected them:

1. Colorado Springs, CO Best habitat
2. Omaha, NE Best odd animals
3. San Diego, CA Best assortment

Be advised, I have not seen the one in Washington, DC, and if you are into it, I saw giraffes mating in Sacramento, CA
