100%. The fact of the matter is most people are vastly uneducated about deeper subjects such as this and are therefor less likely to reasearch/answer them.

If you use a basic method(intro to philosophy) and use some wit and charm someone or somebody will give you the time of day. The Love of knowledge is not based on a one sided determined argument that others are unable to understand. Most good philosophy is based on tragedy, today. If you give people a chance you might find they know more than you suppose. Read some Nietzsche and find yourself in a world of fragmentation. Life is not immaculate conceptions everyday its "points and clever thinking".

Why do you use the forum to criticize others?
Seriously - academic philosophy is a subject that appeals to only a particular type of hardcore nerd. An even bigger reason is, nobody has questions about academic philosophy -- everyone who studies it, thinks they know it all, or else is the sort to look up the answers themself.
The questions commonly asked here are tedious, I agree, but they usually are about real philosophical issues. Please, spare us the elitist attitude. Folks without formal philosophical education can still be wise and give intelligent, thought-provoking answers. If you think the forum is a waste of your time, don't read it.

You are takeing apretty egotistical stance on this. Not everyone is educated in, or interested in, the same subects or areas. I have studied philosophy, and yet I find it to be beneath me. It is boring and useless.
And don't tell me it is because I don't get it. I have an IQ of 148 (actually tested). But you don't see me going aroung calling people "pseodo intellectuals".
So got back to your outdoor cafe (while the rest of us are actually working) and sip your organic chai while discussing books you pretend to have read with your pseudo intellectual friends.

Probably because most questions here pertain to normal, everyday life. "What should I do about this or that?", "This is broken, how do I fix it?", "How do I know s/he likes me?"
Most of us don't think of your suggested questions during a normal day because we have worked through them elsewhere or we think this is probably not the best place to get meaningful input.
There are a few folks here with amazing insight. But if someone is curious about Plato this may not be the best source of information.

No - I do not agree .You can't judge others perception . Where is it said - that you must be a rocket scientist to discuss certain basic ideas ?
Everyone does not have to agree on Descartes or Locke to discuss basic ideas about the mind ; our world ; God ; or ourselves . Have you ever heard of Mensa International ? It might better suit your needs .

Sadly I must agree with your assessment. It is true that philosophy itself is poorly understood and is also therefore poorly addressed in actual debate.
Also I too attempt to 'seem' intelligent while I am simply a fellow struggling to answer these questions.
Allow us to pose here a question then, one of a philosophical inclination.
In the existence of man upon the earth what separates him from the beasts of the earth. Can we look to the formation of societies or the mechanizations of war? What is uniquely human?

Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation
