You have to be 15 weeks from your due date to qualify for your current employer to have to pay your maternity benefit as they would have done if you had remained with them.
They should really be trying to find you an alternate position within the company if at all possible although this is not a legal obligation unfortunately, but do try playing your face as it were.
I'm not sure what your benefit entitlements would be but the CAB can advise you-they hold clinics where they can help you find everything you're likely to get.
Be aware that if you are in the UK and go to claim JSA or IS (but especially JSA) they may try to tell you that you can not claim because you are pregnant-and hence are unlikely to gain employment. This is illegal. Ask to speak to a senior member of staff-preferably a Senior HEO if this happens to you (it happened to me when my old firm did this to me).
You will get Maternity Allowance from the government, probably at the higher rate but you will have a fight on your hands if you don't want to take it the minute you are 15 weeks from due date(presuming that is that your old company aren't liable). Again you will have to talk to the organ grinder and possibly an MP at this point!
If you are in any doubt as to the validity of your redundancy-ie; they are getting rid because of your pregnancy then seek legal advice-many solicitors will take the case on a no upfront fee basis-or talk to the CAB.
Good luck with everything, hope this helps a little.
ps. If it turns out your company are liable to pay you don't let them pay you in a lump sum in this tax year-statutory maternity pay should be tax and NI free and it won't be if they pay in a lump in this tax year-plus it messes your contributions up.

have u been workin for ur employer for ore than 26 weeks and what reasons did he give u for being made redunant. an employer isnt allowed to sack you or make u redundant when ur preg unless its a valid reason, its against some sex discrimination act but if he sed hes goin to make u redundant after he found out u were pregnant i would go to the cab as there not allowed to do this to u. they can change ur work hours or shifts so it suits u or doesnt pose as an unhealthy environment for u or ur unborn child. but n e way u can claim maternity allowance from 26 weeks u need to get a mat 1b form from the midwife. make sure u see ur local cab about this tho as like i say if ur pregnant he can get rid of u and he has to pay u maternity allowance from 26 weeks onwards (whichever point you choose to take ur maternity leave) up to six months after that date. u are then entitled to (if u like) a further 6 months of unpaid leave. if this fails u can claim income support but u will have to fill out an incapacity benifit form to see if u cna be paid it from n.i. contributions. u can also claim housing benifit if u rent or u can claim it to pay the interest rates on ur mortgage. u can also claim council tax benifit and there is a maternity grant of £500 u can claim from 29 weeks. u can apply for milk tokens from your jobcenter which the doc will need to sign ur form, u can claim this from 10 weeks. i had some porblem when i was pregnant with a similar situation so i hope this info helps u a bit more. let me know how it goes. gud luck and take care xx

You can try your local business bureau, but really, if the company can prove that your position is redundant and noone is replacing you, then there's not much you can do (and you being pregnant is not an issue here - even though it may very well be the reason why the position is suddenly being regarded as redundant).

You will be entitled to maternity allowance, same as what you would have got from your company, but the goverment pays it.
