I am now 37 weeks and 2 days pregnant. Went to doctor today and he said I am still 1 cm dilated and my cervix is still high. With my third baby, I walked around 3cm for at least 3 months before I gave birth. Could it be because its been 7 years since I have had a baby? My best friend told me to do squats to help bring her down and start labour. Is she right?

I think that even if you have had 10 children each one will be different ...in my case i had 40 weeks and days and my baby was still high so after doing an Eco the doctor saw that the baby had the umbilical cord around his neck so i had to get operated the next day. You cold be walking, doing squats or jumping up and down but your just going to need patience and let time flow, also be alert to the movements of your baby because ti could have the umbilical cord around his neck and that could be a reason why the baby doesn't come down...have a nice day!

Every pregnancy is different. Dont rush things. You still have 3 weeks to go. When the time comes, do alot of walking. The baby will come down itself. I would only do the squats if I were in labor, or you can always ask your doctor about it. Everyone has different beliefs so its hard to tell who you should listen to. I'm only going by experience. I've had 4 kids so I know alittle bit on what should be happening at this point. Relax and let your pregnancy take its natural course, and congratulations on the little one!!

I wouldn't do squats, truthfully it just sounds way uncomfortable. Your baby will come when your baby is ready. You can listen to all of the people who tell you to have sex, walk, or perform any of those other wives tales, but they all have been discredited. My advice save your energy, we all need it at this stage. I also do not think it has anything to do with your last pregnancy being 7 years ago. Every pregnancy, every woman, and every baby is different. No two experiences will be exactly the same. Just try to relax, I know it is hard. I just came back from the doc and she said my cervix is starting to soften, but it could still be weeks. I was crushed of course, but what can you do.

My childbirth book says NO squats after 35 weeks, until you go into labor. Once labor has started, squats can help it progress and help the baby descend. So can walking, kneeling, and the all-fours position. Gravity is your friend.
Avoid lying down vertically, on your back, once labor starts.

You have three weeks before you are "due" and another two weeks of possible postdates pregnancy after that, so relax, Mom. But you are in the home stretch! Just take it easy. things wil happen when they should.

When I was finally induced I had no dialation and wasnt effaced like at all! From about 36 weeks on I walked at least 2 miles a day, bounced on a palites ball (kinda like squating), and had sex. Nothing worked! I guess they really do come when they are ready. I was induced and ended up in a c-section. I wish I could have waited to have him until he was ready but he was already 2 weeks over due! Good luck!

While pregant with my second daughter I was in & out of hospital with health problems. When the doctor checked me out, around 38 weeks (& from then on) she said I was 2cm dilated. I kept asking if that meant the baby was going to come out soon.

The doctor told me that after you have your first baby your cervix never really goes back, it stays a bit dilated. You have proberlly been 1cm dilated the whole time

You're pretty much where you should be. You still technically have 3 weeks. Personally, I would say just leave it alone. The baby will come when the baby's ready.
