When does a girl become a woman?

My friend thinks, that a girl becomes a woman when she looses her virginity, actually 3 other friends of mine think the same thing. It's wrong, right? Cause for example if a 60-year old female is still a virgin, do you call her "girl"?! Well, that's what they think. My oppinion, is that a girl becomes a woman when she gets her first period(she's able to have babies) and becomes responsible for her actions. Is me or my friend right?? We're both 15. I think she has a primitive point of view.

Most of you say, that u also become a woman when you become 18. What does age have to do with responsibility? A female uder 18 might make a better woman than the irresponsible one over 18.

my honest opinion a woman is officially a woman when she is fully aware of who she is and her place in the world.

The body is functioning as a woman but it doesn't mean that she is a woman per say because her mind is still child like.

There are several ways to look at what is a woman.

1. A woman is the physical sex opposite of a man. IE - a female. A female goes into her first heat cycle at the age ranges of 9-16. Commonly the cycle is monthly following the lunar patterns of 28 days. This pattern continues steadily for approximately 35-45 years. Broken occasionally only by pregnancy.

Having a period does NOT make you a woman. It makes you female.

2. When a female (or male) has not had sex they are a virgin. It is a physical state. Once they have sex they are no longer a virgin. This is also a physical state. There is nothing mythical or magical about sex and what it does to the body.

Having sex does NOT make you a woman. It means that you had sex. Molested children can become a woman at 6 and virgin females at 60 are still a child is ridiculous and poorly thought out. That sort of logic stems from people wishing to be more than they currently are.

3. Being a woman is a state of mind and a pattern of behavior. It has very little to do with the physical body. Being a woman is how you perceive yourself, how others perceive you and how you interact with others on a social level.

To be a woman is able to account for her actions honestly and fairly. To hold herself to a higher standard than that of a child. A woman must be able to honor herself and those around her. She must have the courage to stand against the unjust, and the unwise. A woman has the commitment to do all that must be done for the health and safety of everyone, even if it is unpopular. A woman is selfless but not a pushover. She is soft and gentle but firm and demanding when the time is needed.

Until you can do what is listed in #3 you are not a woman, only female. Some people don't become a woman until very late in life, other come into womanhood early do to circumstances.

Well when you both grow up ,most likely. One must grow up to become a women. Doesn't matter if you have sex or not. but most of the time, is when a women turns 18. So when you both reach legal age, you'll know.

When you receive your period your body is telling you that it is prepared to have an embryo in its womb- to me a woman is a woman when she is responsible for her actions, when she can support herself economically, when she does not live with parents. A woman is a total of many things. Lots a people say that when you get your period your a woman- I differ. So I agree with you. To me you all are young adults, but not jet women. ;-)

Having sex doesn't make a female a woman...it just makes her sexually active.

When a girl gets her period, she's a "young woman" (but "girl" is still appropriate) but until she's also legally an adult, I wouldn't use the term "woman"...an 11 or 12 yr old who has gotten their period, are still "girls".

Contrary to popular belief, she is a Woman when she doesn't rely on others' opinion in order to define herself. She knows who she is, what she likes, and what she's doing. That is not arrogance, that is self assurance. What 'everyone else is doing' is no influence on her. She doesn't make radical changes to the very core of herself in order to be liked; by a friend, a family member, or a mate.

A girl becomes a women when she is totally responsible for her welfare as well as he actions. When she can "bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan and sit down and enjoy the meal". She becomes a woman when she does not have to depend on ANYONE for her life or livelyhood.
