If you are traveling into Mexico via air travel you will need a passport, the new regulations went into effect in January of this year. If you are traveling into Mexico via car or boat travel you will not need a passport, these regulations are not set to change until January 2008. I would suggest that you all have your drivers license as well as your birth certificate and you should be fine. You can find more information on either the Customs website or the Department of Homeland Security site. http://www.cbp.gov/ http://www.dhs.gov/
Hope this helps and have a good trip to Mexico!!

The Government of Mexico requires that all U.S. citizens present proof of citizenship and photo identification for entry into Mexico. If you are driving you must carry Mexico insurance and bring photo ID (like a drivers license). You do not need a passport until Jan 1 2008. If you are entering Mexico by land and staying for over 72 hours and/or traveling more than 20 miles beyond the border, you will need to get a Tourist Card. You also might need to get a Vehicle Permit. When you are crossing the Mexican Border. If you are not traveling futher than that then you do not need anything except a photo ID. If you are traveling by air or see you must have a passport NO EXCEPTIONS. To figure out how to obtain a passport or Tourist card or vehicle permit see links.

If you are going to drive into Mexico, you DO NOT need a passport until next year. You need to have a photo ID and original copy of your birth certificate (with the raised seal, not a copy) If your going to leave a border zone or stay longer than 72 hours you need a tourist card. These are very easy to get and cost about $23.00. Dont expect someone to be there handing them out though, you need to go to the immigration people at the border and request one.
Any thoughts on where you are going? If you have any questions at all please feel free to e-mail me. I am in Mexico now and have traveled most of the country.

You will need proper documents , like passports, birth certificates and proper identificatioan, and if that fails, then use what they know best, cash, and with cash you can do anything you want in Mexico, legal or not,,,,,,,,,
