Hello. I am a high school junior right now and I'm worried about applications this fall. I just want to know whether or not I can get into UC San Diego or UC Los Angeles with these grades/extracurriculars.

My current GPA for soph/1st semester of junior year: 3.75 weighted. I'm aiming for a 4.0+ 2nd semester.

SAT score: 1830, planning to retake and get a higher score of 2100+

Extracurriculars (by the time I send out applications)
3 years of Track/Field
1 year of Basketball
Member of Youth Alive Christian Club for 3 years
Member of Spanish Club for 2 years/helped facillitate projects
Member of Study Club for 2 years
Was named as Most Improved Student by the end of sophomore year.
(I'm aiming to volunteer as much as I can this summer)

Projected Senior class schedule:
Weight Training
AP Government
AP English 12
AP Chemistry
Physics
Pre-Calculus

Many thanks if you answer :D

You'll definitely get into UCI. UCSD doesn't even seem that impossible; you have a very good shot. Cal and UCLA seem like far reaches though.

If you do as well as you have been doing, your GPA will increase -- since AP courses have a higher value.

California graduates who finish in the top 10% of their classes are guaranteed entrance into one of the UC schools. My guess is that you will probably be in the top 10% -- so will get into at least one.

UC-Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD and UC-Davis are a little pickier than the others. If you don't bring up your SAT scores, then those schools will be very difficult for you to get into. That still leaves several UC schools -- and UCI is a possibility for you.

Good luck.

You should be fine for UCI with what you have now, particularly if you raise it to where you want it to be.

Your "projected" GPA and SAT score are in line with what SD/UCLA/Berkeley are looking for. GPA seems a little on the low side for UCLA/Berkeley, but not too much. 2100+ should make the 4.0 weighted a good enough GPA.

As of now, UCI is a realistic school, and definitely apply to Davis and Santa Barbara as well, with some safety schools like Riverside.

I disagree with Taranto when he says Davis is pickier and up there with SD/LA/Cal. Must be a Socal vs. Norcal thing. :)

My brother went to UCI and he's a moron. You shouldn't have any problem.
