i have 97 olds achieva with noisy ac compressor. Ac works as well as heat.?

i have 97 olds achieva with noisy ac compressor. Ac works as well as heat. Most of the times the noise goes away when heat or the ac is turned on. If the ac compressor seizes what happens? Will the serpentine belt turn normally?

Clutch plate on the compressor may need tightening.

Clutch plate maybe needs replaced they do go bad.
Gejandsons may also be correct
