Is deception necessary, in order to control the heathen masses, as Leo Strauss would argue?

I'm from NY State, maybe I'm a little behind the play here, government tells the truth occasionally? Where? Are they forced to tell the truth? Do they do it willingly? Help me out here! I'm SO confused!

I can fathom:

A major political party leader accepting a free room from a gambling interest, and then claiming that "there was no conflict of interest, that free presidential suite did not, in any way, influence my decision to allow more gambling in NY State!"

A State Comptroller (basically the Chief Financial Officer of the state) Who hires several persons to act as 1) driver and personal protection for his wife. 2) Personal driver for an attractive older former TV star who needs transport to appointments.

A "major party player" who has most of his family on the government payroll

Several hundred (or thousand) minor party players who have had at least 1 family member appointed to the board of some "non-profit" agency in return for several hundred thousand dollar "member item grants" for their agency.

But politicians telling the truth? Where did that urban legend come from!

None, Lying and deception leave to much room for corruption and unnecesary wars. It also alienates the people. If the government can tell lies and cheat and steal so can I. So we have a generation of people living on the edge of the law going on either side because the government does the same thing with repercussion. We the people should hold them the liars accountable and send the all to jail.

Lying??? When is lying ever ok? After all isn't this country suppose to be FOR the people BY the people?? Government lying to the people just doesn't make a heck of alot of sense does it? I know I don't wanna be misinformed about anything when my life is involved and I have to make a decision. How much trust do you have in a bunch of liars controlling your life for their own political gain???

Deception is necessary, only because so many people don't actually want to know the truth.
