Have you ever read the Shopaholic series? Not really mystery but they are hilarious! The main character really reminds me of Stephanie in Evanovich's series. I can't remember who wrote Killing Orders, but that was a pretty good mystery novel with a really strong female protagonist. If that author wrote any other novels I bet they would be worth reading. Sorry I can't remember her name! Hope this still helps!

Try Jayne Ann Krentz - they're not series but they are good. Start with "Trust Me" which is a cross between a mystery and a romance novel. The humor arises from the mismatch between a serious engineer and a caterer who was raised in a family of actors and artists.

If you like the whimsical women detective type books, you might also enjoy Joanne Fluke. (her books have the names of foods in the title, "Sugar Cookie murder", etc...) or Mary Daheim's "Bed and Breakfast Mystery" series. Also, Cleo Coyle has a series of "Coffee House" mysteries... those are for lite reads. If you are into a more serious mystery, with great twists and turns... check out Harlan Coben. He is great. Happy reading!

Try reading Dashiell Hammett. He invented the hard-boiled detective novel. His work is highly stylized, edgy, and very fast-paced. His characters are dark, sexy, violent, and incredibly self-centered. I think Hammett is hilarious as well.
If you want something more along the lines of genre fiction, you might enjoy Sue Grafton's series. Her book titles follow the formula "A is for...B is for..." and so on. She's up to the letter S right now, so you wouldn't have to worry about running out of books any time soon.

The Sunny Randall novels by Robert B. Parker about a female private eye. Stuart Woods books including the "Orchid" series are all about a female police chief.

Try J.D. Robb. It's actually Nora Roberts writing with a pen name of J.D. Robb. If you liked Evonovich's Stephanie Plum, than you'll like Eve Dallas in this series. The first book is Naked in Death. I just finished the 24th book in this series. You can actually start anywhere if you want. Give it a try. I bet you'll like it.
