I was previously a PC and lap top sales associate at Circuit City. The best way to keep your lap top thoroughly clean is to go to a Best Buy, or equivelent electronics store, and buy a lap top screen cleaning kit, it will take care of pesky thumb prints. It should have a little spray bottle and a special rag. Also, buy one of those little things of compressed air to get dust out of your lap top so that it doesn't over heat. Dusting doesn't need to be done more than once a month.

actually in truth, it must depend on your type of laptop screen. if it is the matt version that absorbs a lot of light, it would be easier to keep clean. if it is the reflective type that shows very realistic photographs, it would be harder.
a duster would work, but the fibers of the duster could get stuck in the edges of the screen, thus leaving them there for good. or if you want to get rid of the fibers, you would end up with more fingerprints than ever on the screen itself.
the simplest way to keep it clean is to purchase a cleaning kit from 3M. thats the one i use. its pretty effective but make sure that your screen is turned off first before wiping it. static electricity while wiping with the screen turned on with the cloth is a great way to kill the LCD pixels. another way would be to purchase a screen protector for your laptop. these two ways keep the laptop screen clean from dust. do make sure that you know the exact size of your screen. it is measured in inches diagonally. 15", 15.4" etc. these are the standard sizes. if you are unsure, bring your laptop down to the store and have it measured physically. note as well that some screen protectors are not as good as it looks, meaning that the brightness of the screen will be reduced after it is applied on the screen. ask if there is a physical piece that you can see and test it on your screen first.
fingerprints would be another issue. if you absolutely love to run your finger through the screen to see the colors change, no screen protector ever made is going to help you. basic skills of learning how to open the laptop without touching the screen is going to keep the screen clean of fingerprints. even with a screen protector, it will be apt to be coated with fingerprints should you touch the screen with your fingers.

I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The best PC cleaner and antivirus program is PC Health Boost, it's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate.
It's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than nomal. Download it here for free: http://www.pcboostsoftware.com

To clean the LCD:
1. Turn off the computer or display. You may need to turn off the computer in order to turn off some Apple displays.
2. Dampen a clean, soft, lint-free cloth or paper with water only.
3. Wipe the screen. Do not spray liquid directly on the screen.
Keep taking care of the laptop and everything should be good.

Get a can of compressed air to keep the dust off. To keep the fingerprints off... well... don't touch it!
To clean it without streaks use a solution of one part rubbing alcohol and one part tap water with a soft clean cloth like a towel. Dip the cloth in the solution, squeeze out the excess liquid, then wipe the screen with the damp cloth. It's okay to rub gently if you need to. Then dry the screen with the other end of the cloth. It works great without streaking and it's harmless to your screen. Works on TVs too.
