When Liz MacDonald was talking to the chap through in the back room, she didn't answer the phone and said it would be some Scottish person selling windows. She said she couldn't be bothered with the seconds silence and then a voice saying helloooo. She said this in a scottish accent. If she had said indian and used an indian accent this would be classified as rasist so why not for us scots?? Why do people think its ok to do this???

I thought that to, I was fuming but did I do anything about it? noooo,
I thought then same as you, if it had been any other accent they would have had complaints coming out of their ears!
It's like when they call us Scotch, Scots, Jocks etc is that not Racist? I'm a Scottish person!!! OK rant over!
Thanks for that I feel much better now, maybe I will just phone The Rovers Return and tell Liz how upset she's made us!

Didn't see it - but I agree that it was in bad taste. Maybe racism isn't the best term to use here, but it's definitely derogative and seems to happen a lot in English/British television.

To some of the other ppl who answered, I'll enlighten you with the definition of race:

"A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: 'the German race.' A genealogical line; a lineage."

"Scots" can either be a race or a nationality, and I don't know why ppl never seem to recognise that.

I wouldn't consider it racist if she'd mocked an Indian. Likewise, I wouldn't consider it racist if it was a Scotsman, Londoner or Brummie at the end of that phone.

She is merely mocking the fact that the person who usually rings up has an accent. It has nothing to do with race, and I wish people would stop playing the 'race' card when they fail to understand the context of a situation.

I didn't see it.
I read that a lot of call centres are based in scotland because people like the accent and it doesn't offend the ear. So it's not all bad.

Becuase Scottish isn't a race it's a nationality, unlike Indian which is a .... oh, hold on - that's a nationality too.

But if she said Pakistani - oh crumbs, another nationality.

Truth is - I don't know why it's any different, perhaps if you had darker skin it would make a difference.....

I know, it really bugs me that they think its ok to make fun of another race. I am scottish (3rd generation), but because I am not white, people think its ok to say "there's no way you are scottish". Don't they realise how racist this is?

scots aren't a race.... they have an accent, there are many different british accents....
if however she had related the an indian accent to a curry house or something, that would be pretty racist!
hmmmm its a tricky subject
