To be honest it could be a few things, but here's a go. First step is to learn some hotkeys on your keyboard so you dont loose anymore info. Pressing ALT Usually gives you access to the menu (File/Edit/View/Favorites/Tools/Help In Internet Explorer) and by using the arrow keys you can choose your selection like with a mouse, and ENTER to confirm.
Second. If that doesnt work (I.e your whole computer stops working) then it's probably a Virus, or even a Hardware problem. In the first case d/l an antivirus (I use AVG-Free but there are loads of free ones out there). If it's not a Virus then you need to find someone who knows about computers.
If it all still works then it's your mouse. Some mice come with Drivers but not all, some are plug-and-play. If its the first case then try and d/l the drivers from the net, if not then you'll need a new mouse. Check it;s not the connection by plugging the mouse in a different slot (Whatever your plug is, usually there are several USB slots on modern motherboards and two PS2 slots for Mouse and keyboard.)
Other than that not a lot you can do. Mice can be picked up from around £3 (in England of course) but if ur american I wouldnt be able to help.
Good Luck!

Hi there, I have the same problem, it works for days then all of a sudden the mouse freezes, I have no solution for the problem I am hoping to get an answer from one of your answer's but I can tell you that if you press the windows key, use your arrows to go to turn off computer but do not turn it off, just restart the computer and when the computer has started back up your mouse should be working, well my mouse works again straight away so it should be the same with you,but remember to try to save any work you have been doing by using the keys on the keyboard. This will help you if your mouse freezes when you are using your computer and you want your mouse up and running again quick, I hope you find out what is causing the mouse to freeze as it is annoying, mines is a roll ball one so I'm going to take it apart to see if there is anything in there that shouldn't be, good luck, hope you get it working.

Optical mouse or rollerball?
Rollerball: Make sure ball cage is clean. Open up the mouse at the bottom and see if there is gunk on the bars that hold the ball. This can be scraped off with a fingernail. If that doesn't work, check your connections.
Either: If you have a bent or loose connector, it could be the problem. Also, kinks in the cable can have this effect. If you have a wireless mouse, check your batteries. Beyond that---I've got nuttin'

Depending on the exact issue at hand, a thorough Google search may be be your best bet at resolving for yourself whatever is causing dysfunction. Nonetheless, as a computer technician who runs his own business troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, and optimizing computers... I can probably guide you in the right direction. However, without having your PC directly at my fingertips, I can only make general suggestions. In this case, I would surely check out the highly esteemed world-class Reimage software from https://tr.im/ReimageRepair ..
When people come into our shop and drop off their PC for repair, the first thing we do is run an initial diagnostic. For this function, I use Reimage exclusively. In many cases, I am able to diagnose very quickly what is making their computer run slow, or is giving them the crashes/freezes/errors/grief that brought them to me in the first place. After the diagnostic, in a majority of cases, Reimage is able to remedy All problems and replace any corrupted Windows files. I then proceed to charge a handsome fee for my services that took me all but 30-60 minutes to complete. Obviously sometimes I must work more, but often this is all it takes. It is a very powerful tool that would likely put me and others in my industry out of business if more people knew of it. So don't tell anyone lol, and Good Luck with your PC.

If its a wireless mouse, it could be the batteries. If its USB it could be because you've got other USB devices running at the same time.
Try installing the latest mouse drivers. I'm no expert but I've had the same problem and new drivers worked for me. Good luck.

If it's a wireless mouse, change the batteries. To be honest though, I suspect your pc may be infected. I take it you have a good anti-virus program, if not download for free AVG from Grisoft, update it & run it.
Also try Ad-Aware SE Personal & Spybot S&D, both free downloads and both good at catching malware.
Finally, dowload Ccleaner (free again) and run it to clear up crap from your machine.
Give them a try and see how it goes.
(I'm not going to be tempted to say bring your mouse indoors at night, am I . . . sorry, couldn't resist)
