I'm doing a powerpoint in which the viewer doesn't have to click. The text/slides advance on their own after a preset amount of time. But I'm a fast reader, and I don't want to set the time based on my pace and have it be too fast.

On average. a word takes maybe 1/2 a second. However i reccomend at least 5 or 6 seconds a slide for only 8-10 words, incase there is any reading impared people watching the Powerpoint.

A fast reader will take in ten words in a second or less, but a more typical time is two or three seconds. You also have to add a second or so for the reader to find his place after the slide changes. Consider too how much time you want to allow for the idea expressed to be absorbed before moving on to the next slide.

A good way to pace the presentation is to consider how fast you would go if you were presenting the information orally.

How long does it take me to read 8-10 words? A fine split second!

But if I'm actually reading it aloud, then it'll take me about a second.

Maybe for your slide, have it set to 4-5 seconds.
