I saw a Very interesting interview by Jon Stewart of a woman who has written a book about Lincoln -- where her point was how he surrounded himself with all kinds of people, even political enemies, people of different views and stances, and then sought to find consensus among them all.
He really used and listened to people of widely differing views.
Wouldn't someone like THAT be nice?
Not a divider, a uniter.
I also believe Lincoln genuinely cared about people's well-being.
That would definitely be a plus (don't hold your breath).
So, he's the person who sprang to mind when I read your question.
Oh, yeah, and he not only had a heart, he also had brains; also a plus.
Edit, after reading other answers. Not John, but Bobby Kennedy -- he'd be another I'd wish for.
Reagan? Great, it was during his time in office we began the spiral downward into becoming a Feudal-like society. Yes, we certainly need more of THAT, don't we?

John F. Kennedy. He had a way with the people world wide, yet could be tough when he needed to be. Leaders across the Globe loved and respected him. You can't have a US President that the entire world hates. We are a global community now whether we like it or not.

Sir Winston Churchill, although I'm sure our Aussie and NZ friends would have a slightly different opinion of him considering the way he treated the ANZACs.

Harry Truman! He had the intestinal fortitude to do what it took to win the war. LOL, PC was not a major concern of his, doing what was right was his prime objective.

She wasn't a true political leader, but Lady Diana. She had an ability to win respect, was humanitarian, forthright, active, without taking down others around her. She was a wonderful role model to many, even in the US.
