I was watching an episode of COPS yesterday, and this guy had about a pound of crystal meth in his bag.

And it hit me...

What in the WORLD do the police and/or government do with the drugs they confiscate?

At the end of a trial for possession of drugs, the court will make an order for the confiscation and destruction of the drugs. Now, of course, a lot of cases concerning cannabis don't get to court, so it is an internal matter for the police. One can only wonder!

Interestingly enough, there is a major crisis at Miami Airport, where they have confiscated many tons of bottles containing perfume and alcohol from passengers of late and cannot dispose of them. Confiscation has its drawbacks....

They burn them.

(and then stand downwind).

Sometimes corrupt cops will have a little biz on the side selling off the stuff that they take. They can bust someone with half a pound of meth, and only turn in 1/4 pound, and then sell the rest.

Of course if they get caught, they end up sitting in jail with the guy they arrested. I can gaurantee that guy will have a few things to say to him when he gets there.

There was a drug dealer in Sitka, Ak that was caught with 2 lbs of cocain at the airport. He was released the next day due to "Lack of evidence" and given a plane ticket to LA. You do the math. On paper the evidence is kept in storage until the sentence is served, then incinerated. Yeah...right.

After carefully being inventoried and cataloged the local narcotics squad takes them to the incinerator at the State Health Department. They do it with no notice, and they usually have a couple of uniformed officers as escorts so the no one can "hijack" the shipment.

They go back into circulation. Drugs are money, do you think cops would just throw away money?
