Hi Lamorinda!

The next eclipse of any kind you can see will be a total eclipse of the moon this summer, the night of August 27-28th.

The next SOLAR eclipse is the partial eclipse of May 20, 2012. This will be an annular eclipse across most of northern California, north of a line running northwest from Lake Tahoe. The Bay area sees only a deep partial eclipse, however.

To see a total eclipse of the sun, there will be one August 21, 2017 in Oregon. To see one in the San Francisco Bay area, without the need to travel, how about a New Year's Eve eclipse in the Twenty-third Century! You'll have one the afternoon of December 31st, 2252.
