If you hate Harry Potter or you don't care, please don't bother answering my question because I'm not interested in your answer. Thanks a lot.

To HP fans: I've heard that two people will die in the last book...and if the prophecy is right, someone must die for the other to live, and I was wondering that maybe both Voldemort and Harry will die?? That would be a horrible ending, but pretty reasonable...

I'm still so sad for Dumbledore, I know it's stupid but I can't bear the thought of Harry dying, really :))
I feel like it's such a mean reason for the writer to kill him off just because she doesn't want to write any more books about him (that's what I read in a newspaper though).

Any ideas or information?

The prophecy says: "...AND EITHER MUST DIE AT THE HAND OF THE OTHER FOR NEITHER CAN LIVE WHILE THE OTHER SURVIVES..." In book 6 dumbledore is explaining what it means and he said that Harry is quite free to turn his back on the prophecy, but Voldy still sets store by the prophecy, and will continue to hunt Harry, so that makes it certain really that one of them will end up killing the other. So I dont think it means that they will both have to die, JKR said she worded the prophecy very carefully, and in all the things DD said about the prophecy he never said it ment that they will both die.

Harry can't be a Horcux cause first of all, you can't make a horcux witout meaning to. Second, why would he keep trying to kill Harry if he was the horcrux?

Okay,

1) She never, ever, ever said that ONLY two people will die. She said that "TWO MORE" people die than she originally thought. (This is kinda a pet peeve for me, sorry!) That rules out Harry and Voldemort from those two, because she would have already had it planned. These will probably be two characters that are loved, whose stories took a different turn than she had originally expected (see link 1 below).

2) Dumbledore is dead - JK has said not to expect him to "pull a Gandalf."(link 2a) BUT... apparently he's still able to give JK some trouble when writing the last book.(link 2b) So, we'll see. I'm actually very excited on this point, though, because if he's "giving her trouble" but not coming back to life, this is something very different and I'm intrigued.

3) Harry... Poor Harry. I don't know if he's going to live or die. He's been through so much, it seems like almost too much to live with, especially after everything that's going to happen in DH. But if he's anything, he's resilient. So we'll just have to read and see on that point, too. I just hope if he does live, though, that Ron, Hermione and Ginny are all okay as well, because he's already got other deaths "on his head," so to speak.

Also, in the first link, there's a bit where JK (Jo) talks about "killing" Harry (meaning a discussion of why it might be done). In that she does say that killing Harry would mean no one could continue more Harry Potter stories after her and mentions Agatha Christie and her most famous detective, Poirot. Now, technically this is true, but Christie killed Poirot when she herself died - "Curtain" was not published until after her death. Since this is a different situation, I'm wondering if perhaps it is a clue that he'll live? That's stretching it, I know, but I've seen some other crazy theories spouted, so this one's mine :-)

Also, JK would not kill Harry just because she didn't want to write about him anymore. She is very good about doing things only because that is what the plot calls for - that is where her story is going. So I wouldn't worry about Harry dying for no good reason - she wouldn't do that. It's not like he'll defeat Voldemort and then get hit by the Knight Bus in some tragic act of irony.

I realize that there are some very good and believable theories that say Harry will die, but I don't think he will.

Some have even speculated the JKR will have to kill him to avoid being hounded for more HP books, but I don't buy that. She'll be hounded for more HP stuff the rest of her life, no matter what happens. She will not kill him off just for that.

And as for the prophecy, I have read some very well-written editorials on MuggleNet that say Harry must die, and others that are just as well-written that say he must live. But, in my mind, it just comes down to the fact that this is a hero quest. What lesson will be learned by Harry dying? What will it prove? From a literary standpoint, I just can't see any benefit to Harry dying.

And, if nothing else, remember this. The HP novels have always been character-driven, not plot-driven. It is the actions of the characters that determine everything, not some elaborate behind-the-scenes plots. So don't get too caught up in interpreting the prophecy. In the end, it will be the choices made by Harry and the other characters that will determine whether he lives or dies.

Yeah it's kinda hard to think that harry might die. What do i think will happen i think that harry will have a 50/50 chance of living same with voldamort im almost positve that it will end in the last battle im sure everybody knows about that another thing i think that i know what Dealthy Hallows Is. I think that it is eathier a new place or it is Grodrics Hallow The place were Harrys parents are Buried I do think that this is the place were the final batle will take place and the place were harry will either live or die unless harry or voldermort takes them someware elce wich is posible. And don't forget that Harry said that he was not going back to hogwarts so he will probley use his magic out of school

Well, when you get down to it, when Voldemort dies, it will end the hunt. Therefore the story can end with it. If Harry dies, the book will be very short. So, I think Hermione and Voldemort will die. Although I love Hermione, she is the only one that we expect to live (besides Ron) and Ginny has been used before so I don't believe she will be a major target. If Voldemort gets Hermione, Harry will die before he lets her die. So my idea...

Voldemort gets Hermione
Murders her in front of Harry
Harry, Ron, Ginny and Neville use the Avada Kedavra at the same time, Kill Voldemort and then lead almost normal lifes. But thats just my opinion.

I don't understand the point of killing him.

It was written as a children's book series, so what purpose does killing him really serve.

He could die a hero, but what message does that send?

Dumbledore dying served a purpose. Snape made a promise , so either he had to die or Dumbledore had too die.
Since Voldermort feared Dumbledore, DD dying allowed Snape to live and will make Voldermort careless.

It seems the point of the last book is to show the power of love. Although, as a christian I understand sacrificial love, since Christianity is based on God sacrificing himself for mankind, I don't think the lesson is best served if Harry dies filling that example.

I may be wrong, but I think he will live. Well, he should live. Either way, she will get my money! Hopefully, it will be worth the price!

I think that both Harry and the Dark Lord will perish together. Just as Conan Doyle tried to kill off both Holmes and Moriarty, Jo Rowling is doing her best not to keep writing Harry Potter. It has been 17 years of her life.

BTW, Neville may be the one to kill the Dark Lord. Just my take on it. And do not believe only two will die. Lupin, Snape, Tonks, and maybe Percy and Molly could perish.

Be careful. Death is not the only possible fate awaiting for all characters in Book7. Other alternate for Death throughout Harry Potter series are:

1) Driven insane by Cruciatus Curse
2) Soul sucked by Dementor's Kiss... fate even worse than Death!
3) Others... I just coudn't remember right now.

So I do believe that two important characters (And MUCH MORE of less important characters! Rowling said 2 "IMPORTANT"... that implies MUCH more death of LESS important characters!) would die. Which one? I don't know and I don't want to speculate at this time. Too many possibility besides Death here....

Dumbledore is truly dead, but Harry can still talk to Dumbledore's picture at Hogwarts. I think that the prophecy was talking about Neville instead of Harry so I think Neville and Voldemort will die. I also think that the locket is at Grimmauld Place because in Order of the Phoenix when they were cleaning Grimmauld Place they found a locket that wouldn't open, but put it in the bag of items they found. Also I think the Snape loved Lily, Dumbledore once worked for Voldemort (look at what he says in cave while drinking potion in Half Blood Prince), Harry will save Malfloy, Harry is not a Horcrux, a Horcrux will be at Godric's Hollow, and something will happen at Bill and Fleur's wedding.

i have heard that harry is going to die in the seventh book .

remember the prophecy in the 5th book according to which if one dies the other cannot live?

to finish voldemort, harry has to die and he will die.
moreover i am 99% sure that harry is the last horcrux which when destroyed would lead to the end of voldemort.
