To have a male roommate? I just filed for divorce with my husband because of some abuse issues. I am getting my own apartment, and I am in the Navy and one of my friends is going to move in and help out, well he's a male. Is this acceptable? We are both in the Navy, I'm at a shore command because I am pregnant and he's on a sea command. He will be making a lot of small trips out to see before his 6 month deployment. But, he is just going to be around to help with the rent and utility payments. So is it acceptable?

As long as the two of you have an agreement in place and you are comfortable with him being there, no problem at all. The only problem I possibly see happening is a strain on your friendship and how well he'll deal with the baby. It's a whole new ballgame when you live with a friend or a friend with a child/children. You really find out about a person when you live with them. Although with him being in the Navy also and having a 6 month deployment coming up, there might be nothing to worry about.

If your roommate was a woman, would you be asking the same question? A room mate is just that a roommate, gender neutral. The true question is what will your soon to be ex make of the situation (true or false) in a divorce any thing that can cause you trouble, he will use against you. I'm assuming the unborn child is your soon to be ex husband's. He could throw up all kinds of accussations about the situation. My advice is don't give him the ammunition to use against. you

What matters is that it's acceptable to you, and the law (because as a military person you don't want any legal issues). What anyone else thinks doesn't matter.

Do what works best for you...and best wishes with the pregnancy/future-baby. ☺

Yes, I'd rather prefer a male room mate to a female one, as long as he knows he is only room mate and sees me as a friend only. Less chances to have argues daily.
