he turns down a $33 million offer over 7 years, now says he'll sit out the season if they bears don't let him go...that sounds like a pretty good offer from them

yes i know he's been franchise tagged, but thats only because he turned down a great offer in the first place, no one else was going to give him that at the time (march 06), that said i think they should let him go before this creates a bug distraction

Yes he is....33 mil for seven years. Don't people start to play football for the love of the game and now its all about money. He thinks that the money is not enough and he also wants out because he wants to be the leader of the team like Urlacher, but knows that will never happen with Urlacher there. Hate to break it to you Briggs but you'll never be the leader of any team if you're as selfish as you are.... Urlacher was going to take a pay cut just so the bears would extent you....Now whose playing for the love of the game.

Well it's obvious that Briggs thinks that playing with the Bears isn't worth 33 million plus bonuses, and with Briggs quote on ESPN it doesn't seem to be a money problem. Briggs said that he didn't want to play for the organization, even tho he loved the players, coaches, and fans. It seems that Briggs is just having problems with the higher-ups and management and is sick and tired of them. I don't think he's being selfish. I mean if you worked at a place where you hated your bosses, would you want to stay? Briggs doesn't and he wants out but he's too valuable to the Bears to just let go. In real life, if you were sick of your bosses, you could just resign and find a new job with better bosses right? but this is the NFL where he's under a contract, so he's demanding that he be let go or they'll be paying him for nothing. His whole deal isn't about money, just his bosses

Selfish, NO
Arrogant and a lil misguided, yes.

The NFL stands for Not For Long. So you better get your money now before you cant.

To be honest this is my least favorite act of players these days, demanding a trade. You do know that the rest of the league can see your poor attitude and the fact that your lowering your draft value by the sentance further lessening the chances of being traded. its a double edged sword.

My Crystal ball sees no more probowls outside of Chicago for Mr. Lance Briggs

Hes selfish. he wants money but we give it to him he complains. If i was him, they franchise tag me and pay me close to 8 million dollar for that year, I would accepted even if my agents dont think so. Bears helped him get a pro bowl and get to the super bowl and offered him a 33 million dollar contract and 8 million dollar franchise tag. If he doesnt want to play after all we did for him to stay just let go of him, bears can get a LB to replace him but itll be hard with a rookie.

I think hes gonna stay if he really loves football, hes gonna be like the players who let money takes over his life

Maybe Briggs is being to selfish, but can you blame the man for wanting to leave the team and make a name for himself. Look at this way, if he takes this offer from the Bears and something horrible happens to him, his worth will greatly decline. He has made it very clear he does not want to stay in Chicago. It might be selfish, but as a player in a physical sport, he must think of whats best for him in an economical and physical sense.

Last I checked he was labeled as the Franchise Player which restricts him to a one-year deal and pays him as one of the top linebackers in the league, however if he gets hurt next year or has a lackluster season then he misses out on a huge payday that he would have gotten this year if he didn't get the label.
I don't feel like he is being selfish when his peers are getting big money---why shouldn't he.
No one in there right mind would want a one-year guaranteed contract when they deserve a long-term deal.
If your boss offered you a one-year deal would you take it (not knowing if you would be there after that year??

it was probably smart to turn down the 1st deal, but he did it knowing he could be franchised. so he complains now, but he put himself in the situation.

trust me, he WILL play next season. he won't walk away from 7.2 million. if the Bears are smart, they'll still try to sign him to an extension alond the lines of what Urlacher got with a signing bonus.

he's just looking out for his best interests just like the bears are. he'll wake up and realize 7.2 is a nice 1 year haul and he'll get a joey porter type deal after that.

To all the people that believe he is being selfish, take your current job/career, and shorten its' life span. Now think about what you make, and ask yourself is that enough to live on until you die??

The answer is probably no. So now think about what you should make per year to make up for all that lost revenue between the ages of say 32 and 65...

Pretty big number huh, but shouldn't you just work for the love of your job??

Shut up and get real. It is a game to us and a career choice for them. They have every right to earn what they think is comensurate for their position and performance.
