We had a few in our city. They were turned into churches. One was renovated and became a nightclub. Another one was rented to a university and it's a lecture hall.

Near the corner of Diverssey and Clarke in Chicago, a developer took an old theater and turned it into a shopping complex. The shops run in a circular staircase type design and you can take an elevator to the top and walk down. Very nice place.

some basic renovations would allow you to create an indoor storage facility that could generate decent revenues. Also, opening the space to vendors for a flea market is a great short tem idea.

It really does depend on your local market needs you should contact a commercial real estate licensee in your area and ask.
In some areas they probably would be great for holding facilities for illegal aliens.

They lend themselves well to being converted to nightclubs.
