You are coming to study and I believe you must be rich enough to pay the school fees. Anyway there few points that you may note, there are alot of help provided in NUSS itself for foreign student and you should contact them now rather than you come and look for something. You must understand that Singapore is a first class education provider in Asia and the reason so many Asian coming to Singapore to study. Food wise you can find Pakistani food in Serangood road and you may find your fellow country man but watch out for con man.
There is certain level of racism but you can fight for it as we don't shoot each other for trivial matters.
Loneliness can be eradicate by money as we do have alot of entertainment to spend your money. Otherwise invest in television and watch them every night and remember that you are here to study, so use your time wisely. Good luck.

My dad lives in Singapore (for business for 3-5 years) and my mom, brother, and I occasionally visit Singapore.
I think as long as you know English (Chinese is also spoken as well as other diverse languages) you'll be able to communicate well with everyone. Food is cheap if you go to those food junctions (about 3 or 4 dollars will buy a meal). Restaurants are more expensive. Housing can vary from cheap to very expensive depending on how much you can afford (my dad's company pays for housing so he is staying in a 4 bedroom condo that costs $4000 a month). Traveling is easy-most people just walk; there are taxi to take too. Singapore is pretty small so know where you're traveling or one wrong turn you'll end up in in another country! As far as loneliness just make friends when you get there and talk to people. You'll be able to set up a support system soon enough.
Good luck!

Singaporeans are so not racists! Singapore is a multi-racial country and the people there love anyone. Those who think that they are racists are living in some cavern under Lindsay Lohan's left boob.
The people are awesome. But you have to be financially stable in order to survive. And NUS is great, the people there are awesome too. Your skin colour and race won't matter.

Singapore is a "International Hub". You can see almost every nationalist in this country. Forget about the crab from Weescots, it's certainly not a racist country. Some job require to speak Mandarin as about 65% of the population is chinese, thus as a business man, certainly they prefer a employee who speak mandarin. Lodging could be a bit expensive. Other than that, you shouldn't have too much problem.

there's always culture shock to begin with but don't worry... there'll be students' support group to help you cope with the new environment, new people, new culture, etc...
if ever along the way you feel down, don't give up. just remind yourself that you are here (in S'pore) to study. afterall, i reckon it won't be long before you start adapting to the country. food shouldn't be a problem. the only thing that might affect you is perhaps your family but i believe if you have some good company, that should offset the feeling of loneliness & boredom. good luck in your studies & welcome to s'pore!

Singaore is so much a racist country, sorry about the earlier person before, but just look at the adverts in the job page of newspapers everyone speak English but they require you speak Mandrian so itis only Chinese get jobs.
On your main question yes it is cheap to travel for public transport, taxis are cheap but buses even cheaper. If your from Pakistain I would try and find somewhere near Little India to stay, food will be more your taste, and food is cheap from the street but cheaper if you cook your own.
On friends that is another reasons to sty in Little India you will find alot of your fellow countrymen there, but please circulate you will develop more the more cultural experience you see.
