I have a 4 mo. old baby girl who has had reflux for months now. She is on Prevacid and we add rice cereal to her bottle, prop her up, and everything. We are even seeing a GI specialist for her, but she still screams horribly when I try to give her a bottle. Any suggestions?

If this is new - she might be teething or she has an earache. Run your finger along her gums - if you feel anything hard under there, those are teeth. If she WAILS when you lie her down, go get her ears checked.

If it's not new, speak to her doctor - not knowing her exact case, I can't really give you valid advice.

She's associating the reflux (and possible discomfort or pain) with the bottle and that's probably why she's not happy getting a bottle. She knows in her little mind that when she gets a bottle, everything she eats is going to come right back up. I've told my husband before that babies and children are extremely intelligent, but just in a very simple way. Try buying different colored bottles so maybe she'll stop associating the bottle itself w/ all the different colors. Not sure if it would work for you/her, but it's worth a try!

Maybe check her for allergy's,my son did the same thing and is very allergic to dairy and soy.Is she on formula? If she is try Similac Alimentum ready to use tins, the reason I say that is the powdered Alimentum and Nutramigen(both dairy and soy free) have 17 % casein protein which is what alot of baby's are allergic to,the Alimentum ready to use only has 2% to 3% casein protein. It could be worth a try.
Maybe the nipple you are using need to be replaced,if they are latex they can get very hard when they get old and I know my son can tell the difference, maybe evern try a different kind of nipple.
What about thrush?Does she have any white coating on her tongue/lips/inside her cheeks?
I have alot of medical issues with my son and they have also talked about seeing a GI doctor for some testing but I have been warned from my sons(6 months old) Cardiologist that the test they may have to do on him can be very awful and to try to eliminate every other possibility that I can.Good luck to you and try different things, you may just find something yourself.Does your daughter gain weight alright? If she is still gaining OK you will have the time to try new things.Again good luck!!

It could be teething or ear infection. My baby refused the bottle on both accounts.
