Yes, to keep you off balance, and many have a sex scene for no real reason, other than they can do a sex scene

I dunno......EVERY movie? What about Jaws? Chasing Amy? My Own Private Idaho? I don't recall any weird twists that were non-plot related in any of those....but I would say that nowadays, most of the fodder for the masses does have something like that.

it's wasted time.. to make the movie longer.. try going in the movie business.. it costs a little more money, but it makes the reviews longer and yeah... other stuff too.. so it may be pointless to you, but to the industry...
