None. What you do in a given season is how your team should be judged.

None, if you're not good enough to be in it this year then you shouldn't be. Duke, for example, should be a 9 or 10 seed in the tourney, there's no way that they should be seeded as high as they are. But because they are one of the more popular teams in the country the committee wanted them to go as far as possible in the tourney so they seeded them in the top half of the seeds so they would have an easier schedule and could stay alive longer. If they would have been seeded in the bottom half they probably would lose in the first round and then all the "dukies" would be crying and not watch the rest of the tourney. Bunch of spoiled brats!!!!

Winning tradition comes from winning over time, and if your school has a good reason why that should continue, then it probably will.

The first reason is a strong coach or coaching staff. Penn St. has been a great football school because of Joe Paterno. Indiana's basketball program hasn't been the same since Bobby Knight left, but Texas Tech's program has improved considerably. If your school has a great coach or he developed a strong coaching staff, then that is a good reason for success over time.

The other reason is recruitment. Winning schools attract strong players. Strong players lead to winning games, and the cycle continues. A lot of this goes back to coaching, but a school like UCLA and North Carolina keep winning because they keep drawing great athletes. Micheal Jordan chose UNC for its winning program, and other players want to go to Jordan's alma mater.

Other factors don't matter. Coaches and players win games, and if your school has a good combination of both, it is bound to keep winning.

This is one of the questions I had when Syracuse was snubbed. They won it all four years ago and have been in the Tourney almost every year since I can remember. It obviously does not count in their favor or Villanova would not be dancing.

How many years has Notre Dame Football been to a BCS game because of tradition? It matters more where football is concerned because the money is a huge motivater.

Do not look at their long past, the only thing in the past you want to look for in ANY team is their coaches record in the tournament and how good of a leader he is and if any of the players have been to the big dance before, experience is very valuable, thats why you never want to pick a team to win it all thats never been to the Final Four before.

NONE! but they do it anyway so why bother to whine about it....ex: duke deserves a lower seed, they played a weak schedule and should have lost to gonzaga except for some bogus calls... and gonzaga is way down this year... that being said they still get a ridiculous seeding.... i say none... good question though
