By appealing to the lowest common denominater of human response mechanisms and human emotion. In other words, they appeal to our worst fears and to our greed without true journalism or true analysis. Much like the GOP and the right wing Christian bible thumpers.

The moral decline of the United States is the result of the disintegration of the family and its responsibility to chart and navigate a course through the current moral morass.
Some TV programming and other sources have made this course more difficult but the fault should not be placed at their door.

FOX TV is pretty lame.
I don't know that the news division is run by the same people.
I'd like to go back to the "golden days," when news was considered a public service by broadcasters and was not expected to turn a profit.
Offhand, I can't recall a major story that Fox got wrong or helped fabricate, like the NBC crash tests of light trucks rigged with explosives or the Bush National Guard memo on CBS. Not to mention Jayson Blair at the New York Times. So I'd say that they are upholding the standard of honsety better than some competing news sources.
Maybe the past was never really that good. But I can dream!

The key to this is "Bare False Witness."
FOX has managed to bring casual breaking of one of the 10 Commandment into mainstream America.
There is a lot to be said for the 10 commandments as a social guideline. Most cultures on earth agree that you should not kill your neighbor or lie about things.
FOX has made light of this for so long that murder and false testimony are considered now to be Good.
Hey and throw in some torture it murder isn't strong enough for your taste.

Fox news is nothing but an extension of the Bush administrations propaganda, it is completely one sided. Fair and balanced my @$$, but its the same problem with all the other news networks as well, everyone is biased. You have to go look for the facts not get them from the tv, or at least don't hold them as truths until you have some proof.

The problem is that people cannot take FOX seriously-they do a good job on the tabloid stuff-Anna Nicole-missing Aruba girl etc. if you are into it. On real news they are really a joke-you know exactly what side they are on and what they are gonna-an actuall FOX headline-"Libby found not guilty" of course he was found not guilty of one count-a real hoot.

So, the opposing point of view contributes to "moral decline"?
I really don't know what to say to that. Smacks of hypocrisy, don't you think? I don't recall hearing *any* scandals regarding the content of their news, unlike CBS, NY Times, LA Times, Reuters, the AP......
I work with political scientists, and I asked one of them why the left hates Fox News so much. Keep in mind - this is a good liberal we're talking about here - his reply? "They don't want the other side to be heard." No offense, but since he studies politics for a living, I'm going to take his word over yours.
Have a nice day!

By making lies acceptable, ( Towing the Bush Line even when it's proven wrong)
by making torture acceptable, (Jokes about Abu Graib)
by making Anna Nicole More important than war, (John Gobson)
by making racism rise in prevalence again, ( Sean Hannity)
By hiring felons (Ollie North) and disgraced pundits (Dick Morris Prostitute toe sucker)
By Condoning hate speech ( Again Sean Hannity)
By making uninvestigated gossip news (Obama Madrassa story)
By Making Children out to be accepting of Molestion because it's "Fun" instead of treating them like the victims they are ( Bill O'Reilly)
And by Generally leading their viewing audience to believe all of the above is the norm rather than the heinous BS it is

I might agree with you on its choice of entertainment programming --- but it is no different than any other network or movie producer in that respect.
As for Fox News, the fact that you think alternative opinions and reporting of the news leads to moral decay, is indicative of the decay that existed before they came on the scene.
