I'm heading to the hospital at 6pm this evening and they are going to use cervadel. I'm already 3 cm dilated and more than 70% effaced. 6 days overdue!!! What can i expect to happen tonight after the cervadel is used? The doc said my cervix is very soft and stretchy, so the cervadel might just put me right into labor...anyone else have this done?? How long before your baby was born???

My sister's dr used it to get her cervix ready. They put it in at night (6pm) and then in the morning around 6am, they gave her pitocin. My niece was born before noon. First baby.

I do have to warn you, though- if you are trying for a vbac (vaginal birth after c-section) do NOT use it. It will increase your risk of rupture. That is ONLY for a VBAC, I wouldn't worry about it if you haven't ever had a c-section.

It's spelled Cervidil in case you want to google it.

You seem to be progessing farther than I was. I was 1 1/2 cm dilated 0% effaced when they used Cervadel on me. All it made me do was have really bad cramps and a few contractions. That was around noon on a Thursday. They started Pitocin on me around 9 am Friday - I didn't have my daughter until 12:48 am Saturday morning - and she is my third baby! Everyone is different and every body is different.
Good luck - everything will go how it is suppose to go!

I had it also - but was 3 days late, no signs of labor or anything. I had it at 8pm on Wednesday night - I was in full labor by 1 am, my water broke at 4 am and I ended up having a c-section at 10 am (my baby was too big). It works fast for some and not at all for others. I had such strong contractions they had to take it out about 3 am... didn't even make it 12 hours! I am sure you'll go into labor fast. Good luck and early congrats!!

I went in on a Sunday night to get induced. I was only dilated 1 cm and was 5 days over my due date. The cervadel was like a tampon, they stick up in you for 12 hours and i think it is supposed to stimulate the cervix to start contracting. They did 2 of them on me (24 hours) and after all that fun i was only dilated at 2cm!!! Then they used Petocin(sp?) and that is when the contractions kicked in. I had my son on Tues at around 4:30 in the afternoon after going on Sunday at midnight. Good luck to you, cervadel is not painful and if you are already dilated to 3 then it shouldnt take long...get the epidural though!!!!!
