Can companies request health records under the data protection act?

In the UK only if you have signed agreeing to the records being released. Most times an employer does not want the records, but to ask specific questions about your health.
They could not ask for them 'under' the DPA as your records are protected by the act and as such, they are under the jurisdiction of the act

This government would sell your details to anyone willing to pay, and are already doing so. The DVLA just ignore the data protection Act, and it appears that anyone, who can pay will be able to access your identity card details too.

Data Protection Act,? You get more protection from an Asprin.

they can but only with your permison and im not sure if they can get your whole record or just parts of it........ie i put on an application form once that I was suffering from post traumtic stress syndrome and the company asked me perimission to contact my gp for details about it, which i gave, my gp then wrote to the company telling them about the condition and what had caused it ect...............if your unsure why not ask your gp...........
