although not a cat lover, here's an idea:

about 4 images of the same cat in different poses depicting movement, preferrably in a "standing" position with 3 feet on the ground.

Well, what did you have in mind when you first heard of your new project. Thats usually what you should go with (your first instinct) & if it was cats, go with the first answers from Lipsiot. He seems to know where to go with it...
** add/edit ** or if you want something different than cats; try the progression of a baby. Id think that the progression of a baby would be easier to see than a cats

Well, there are many types of cats, from large (lions and tigers) to small housecats. Perhaps you could do a size progression. Or maybe a historical progression--cats were first domesticated by ancient Egyptians and have been popular pets ever since.

Why don't you use art to portray how cats have progressed through history ?

Sabre tooth tigers
Lions
Tigers
Leopards
Wild cats
Household moggies
Ancient Egyptian cats

how about a progression of cats getting eaten by a larger cat ie. a kitten being eaten by cat being eaten by a ocelot being eaten by a lynx being eaten by a cougar being eaten by a cheetah being eaten by a jaguar being eaten by a tiger or lion then show cat stevens or cat woman hunting the final cat...now that's a progresion!

how about taping, glueing or velcroing a sort of pyramid of newspaper clippings, pictures or items onto a piece of paper or a base with a message at the top that ties it all together?
