I'm heading to the hospital at 6pm this evening and they are going to use cervadel. I'm already 3 cm dilated and more than 70% effaced. 6 days overdue!!! What can i expect to happen tonight after the cervadel is used? The doc said my cervix is very soft and stretchy, so the cervadel might just put me right into labor...anyone else have this done?? How long before your baby was born???

I've done it this way before. It made the labor last much longer, and a little more pain, but in the end it was so much better than sitting around like a blimp waiting for the baby to arrive!! It hurts, but as soon as that baby is born, the pain level drops drastically. Labor started almost immediately after administering the cervadel, The best thing to do as soon as labor starts is get up and walk around. It will hurt so bad to walk, but you have to do it. Either go for a walk, or rock in a rocking chair. Either way works to make labor a little faster. And if you want to try to avoid being induced medically, this is going to sound funny, but have sex a couple times before you go. No joke. Sperm softens the cervix and allows it to dialate.

Being you are already showing signs of going in labor. I think you will do great and have a baby soon. I did that too. But I wasn't dilated or anything. But with cervadel it can start you out slow and steady or do nothing and do another bout of it. Or you can have the side effect like I did and take off like a race horse. I was having contractions every 30 secs. It hurt a lot. But in one hour I dilated 3cm. Then we had to stop my labor my daughter was breech. I hope you don't take off like a race horse. would have a baby very soon, but hard contractions very close hurt worse then regular labor. Not enough time in between to recover from the first contraction. I wish you luck and enjoy holding that baby.

Yes I had it done with both my kids. It just helps get labor going. It didnt take me long after they did that! I would say a few hours at the most. Everyone is diferent though. Good luck.

I was started on cervadel, but had to have it removed after about 2 hours because the baby wasn't responding favorably (heartrate went really high). I don't say that to scare you, my situation was not the norm, but just to let you know one of the possible senarios.

6 days is not really overdue. Due dates are mere estimates. If nothing is wrong, then I would not suggest pushing things.
