a female as she knows what exactly going on as does the male doctor. both know what they're doing, but the male doctor doesn't know HOW it feels.

For some reason in my experience female ones aren't nearly as gentle, the two I saw (well one was a gyno the other was a regular doctor) did the most painful swabs EVER, I don't even know how you could make that painful but they did... With male regular doctors that never happened, and the male gyno I saw definitely made everything the most comfortable. This is probably just coincidence though, I really doubt all female doctors do painful exams...
It does seem like maybe since men don't have vaginas it makes them more nervous that they might somehow hurt the patient, and makes them more careful. The female doctors I saw certainly didn't seem to be concered about hurting me AT ALL...

I've seen both a male and female gyno. When I first started going, I did prefer female, but now it doesn't bother me. In fact, sometimes I think a male gyno is faster and more gentle than a female. When I see a male gyno, I hardly feel any discomfort.

Honestly, i prefer a male over a female! I had a female Gyno. and she was very rough with me. I now have a male and he is so gentle. I feel as if men really dont know what it is like to have a womens body, so they are more gentle with it then a woman is.

Absolutely prefer female, in fact, I've never gone to a male period. It's not that I don't think men are good at the profession b/c I know they can be just as good at checking a vagina as any women. I just feel more comfortable w/ someone who owns the same parts as me...touching and inspecting them. I mean I don't know what goes on in the males head...but I'm sure the female could care less, lol.

I have used both and prefer a male doctor because they seem to be more gentle. When I had a female doctor she was more of a wham bam thank you mam type of doctor and didnt really take her time explaining what the test were for or why she was doing them . I also think that since males do not have a vagina they are not sure what does or does not hurt so they are more cautious about how they touch you.

Hey sorry, I know I'm a guy. My cousin (male) is a gyno that's why this question caught my attention.
In response to juakayummy (or whatever)'s comment...Male gyno's are not pervs or whatever thinking nasty thoughts when they doing their job.
Think about it, they went to school for all those years cuz they get a kick out of it??

I prefer a female even though I have a male...I just feel more comfortable with a female...

I feel comfortable with a male gyn since he was the doctor that delivered me.

I don't care if it is a man or a women so long as they are good at what they do. I don't see a GYN doc unless I am having problems as my regular doc handles all my normal problems and yearly pap etc.
