In Barcelona I stayed in Gothic Point Hostel on C/ Vigatans, 5 and I met tonnes of people and had a great time. Because the rooms are large and shared ie many rooms are 12 people, you have many chances to meet many people. If you sleep light though you might not perhaps like this hostel. ie you meet many people but it can be noisy. That you can find on http://www.hostels.com . If you are with friends than Holiday Velvet I found to be good, when I was in Madrid. i think their link is http://www.holiday-velvet.com/madrid.

Madrid is really a enjoyable city with countless cinema shows, opera, dance and countless other kinds of nightlife and if you wish to learn it then here is the place hotelbye . In Madrid you will even discover probably the most exciting areas to choose a night to keep in mind and can be the newest home of Flamenco because Madrid is living with music and passion. The many gorgeous parks and gardens provide tranquil locations and areas like: Royal Palace, Royal Theater, Almudena Cathedral, Plaza Mayor Square, Prado Museum, Queen Sofía Museum, Gran Vía Avenue and Puerta del Sol reminds you why you select that town for your vacation.

You could try a couple of angles. One of the many boards for travellers - Travellerspoint is one here:

http://www.travellerspoint.com

The other has been suggested by a good contributor , but an extra tip is to sort the results on the page with the filter to get the best price, location and offer [ if you do last minute bookings ] and you'll also identify the most popular hostals [ hostels ] that folks stay at. I'm not what you're after, but the different hostels cater for different interests.

Here's a popular one and great location , but it may not be your scene:

Last Minute:

Advance Bookings:

Cheapest - but not as much fun is:
http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com/Spain/Barcelona/Ramblas-Area/Sun---Moon-Hostal-Barcelona-L30153R.htm but i saw some prices with breakfast for 19 euro or was i dreaming :)
