As far as the coach goes it is not a coach from a powerhouse basketball school. At one time they was, but it has been awhile.

1. Kentucky
2. UNC
3. UCLA
4. Duke
5. Indiana
6. Kansas
7. Syracuse
8. Arizona
9. Utah
10.UNLV
The 5th ranked all time coach is Jim Phelan.
The 5th ranked active coach is Coach K.

The only coach from a school in KY with that high of a win total, that I can think of, would be Happy Osbourne from Georgetown College but G-Town is a NAIA school.

And... The two posters above me are shortchanging Duke a little bit I think Duke is 4th in most wins and St. John's is 5th. No I'm not a Duke fan, just checked it out on NCAA.org.

The Walton led UCLA teams won by an average of 30 points per game en route to 3 straight titles and an 88 game win streak. They are 1,2,3. Alcindor's UCLA won by 25 ppg and lost 2 games in 3 years en route to 3 straight titles. They are 4,5,6.
7. 1976 Indiana - Last undefeated team.
8. The '82 Tar Heels that had Jordan and Worthy
9. The UNLV team that beat Duke by 30 in the title game.
10. The UNLV team that lost to Duke the following year. I know, I know... they lost, but this is the most dominating team I have ever seen personally. They finally had a close game and didn't know how to respond. Duke wins that game 1 time out of 10 and that was their one.

Duke is fifth in wins with 3 titles.

the first three teams on that list should be three of John Woodens UCLA teams that won 9 titles in the 60s to early 70s which also won 88 games in a row until derailed by David Thompson and 7'4Tommy Burleson(NCState)...also in consideration should be bill russells USF teams that won consecutive NCAA titles and had a 55 game win streak...UNC a storied history and coach smith who won some ridiculous number of games (until coach knight passed it this season) and national titles and placed many many great pros, Kentucky ...long time traditional winner and national champion,Indiana...a successful program and the last unbeaten national champion as well as coach knight who needs no introduction,Duke...coach K has worked wonders there considering how many winning teams and few superstar professionals, Kansas...winning program and alma mater to some nice pros ,Maryland...always competitive program,Tarks UNLV team that beat the pants off Duke(I happened to go to that final four in denver in 90) and landed a number of pros... not sure who has the fifth most wins...perhaps Duke...
