Me either. The answerer above said "Welcome to capitalism". Capitalism is NOT when businesses fail because of government over-regulation. SMALL business are the ones that will fail, and the larger businesses will just raise prices, thus negating the increase in the minimum wage. Inflation will probably rise too-- more dollars chasing fewer goods.

Yes, it's painfully obvious that you don't understand. Since when do liberals not want companies to make a profit? Answer, since never! Company profits mean more revenue in taxes for the government to fund it's "programs". There would not be any companies in existance, i.e. that could surrive, with no profits and high expenses such as wages. So I suggest you do some research and think again.

If you think the minimum wage is "high" you've never tried living on $600 per month in most parts of the country.

Last I checked, the federal minimum wage is $5.15 per hour. Assume a 40 hour week. That's $206 per week, or approximately, $803 per month. Take off roughly 25% for taxes, FICA, and other state and federal withholdings. That's $600 per month.

But how are businesses supposed to pay high wages? Well, since there are tens of thousands of businesses who make profits in the millions of dollars each year, you obviously cannot be talking about them, since they have plenty of money.

So, you can only be talking about the businesses that aren't making any significant profits, either because because their business model is bad or there is no demand for their product.

Welcome to capitalism. Free market economy. If a business doesn't succeed, it folds. That's the downside to capitalism.

if they couldn't make profit with the previous minimum wage, then they probably shouldn't be in business in the first place...we do need small businesses to help employ people, but the mere fact that people are employed doesn't mean much anymore, because they could be working 3 jobs and still having trouble getting by. Being able to say you're employed, should mean that you are receiving a decent wage for your work and not have to live day to day.

see the thing is.. profit is fine...

but I start having a problem when it's huge profits... and these companies aren't paying their workers anything.... much less ANYWHERE near high wages...

billions in profit, and not paying it's workers enough to make it...

liberals would like a smidge of social responsibility, for companies to care about their workers... for companies to care about the communities they are in... for companies to GIVE JUST A LITTLE, LITTLE BIT OF CARE ABOUT AMERICA.... instead of only about their bottom line...

I asked the question one time if companies owe America anything... and several Republicans said "nothing, the only person they owe anything to is to their shareholders"...

is that a healthy attitude... can America grow on that attitude?

where is your patriotism? does it disappear when talking about money? does America and the people not provide a worker base for your companies?

the real issue here is... they care about money more than America, employees and morality... and that's a destructive attitude... and won't ever make America any better...

profit is fine... and necessary, but it's not the only thing in the world.. and it's not always what's most important...

and granted, some companies do a FANTASTIC job of helping out, getting involved in the community, and giving back millions...

but many more do not and only take... that's a major difference that I see in America over the past 50 years... companies see workers and the community as resources to be used... not humans, with needs, like they are...

Liberals think all business owners are rich. Owning your own business is risky, and it takes a lot of hard work. It should have good rewards. Most Americans are not willing to take that risk. They want all these businesses to pay a living wage, provide benefits, ignoring the fact that most of the minimum wage jobs provide a great source of supplemental income for retirees, jobs for teenagers still living at home, etc. McDonald's and Walmart should be praised in this country.

Liberals are directly responsible for me going to Walmart at least twice a week. Go Walmart!

there is not any such ingredient because of the fact the NHL "dissolving", in spite of the indisputable fact that there is "decertification". Decertification skill the NHLPA breaks up and there is not any longer a union and because no union exists skill no CBA can exist the two, additionally decrease than all of it contracts are nullified and gamers can sign with whoever they opt for for the higest bid besides. base line is merely the NHLPA can use this tactic, yet in doing that it will wipe out a pair of dozen franchises (the recent jerseys, tampa bays, florida etc), and not all 750 contemporary NHL gamers would be offered a settlement so if it is going down a good component of the gamers would be wiped out for good too. i myself dont see discertification happening because of the fact neither edge rather needs that yet i'm able to confirm the NHLPA threatning it "in case you do no longer take our recent furnish have been going to discertify" and that i'm able to incredibly much gurantee you the NHL might cave because of the fact Bettman and group do no longer opt for communities actually going on in flames. actual the two factors are suffering- maximum gamers are not making a earnings/sales and proprietors are not making ANY salary, yet undertaking is their the two stupidly grasping that they could't see how undesirable they are stinging themselves. as much as i like your theory approximately followers tuning out it will by no skill ensue and your deluding your self in case you think of so. useful, some followers will shy away yet numerous followers will come decrease back for greater, its merely the way it works.

Look when you're ready to stop being so dramatic. Get back to me. Most liberals simply want the government to temper the runaway capitalism that is destroying the middle class.
Same setup that created the middle class in the country and led us to become the most prosperous nation on earth. Your way will lead to corporate governance and I'll be damned if I can see any difference between that and Soviet style communism.
