I know there are libertarian parties in America, Canada and New Zealand, but I get the impression that there isn't one in Britain. Could someone please enlighten me?

yes we do exist!! although we are a small party in terms of membership, currently totalling 23 paid up members and 3 who havn't changed their direct debits (the membership fee is now £12 malcolm, steve and ernie!!) we are very proactive in trying to put our message across. we publish a quarterly newsletter, edited by myself and my neighbour charles livingston in his garage!! if you are interested in joing i will leave my address at the bottom of the page. we also hold regular conferences and meetings. recent locations include wooly edge services, the rose and crown in romaldkirk and the deadwater in the scottish borders. we are always looking to increase our membership. currently we plan to put up three candidates for the next round of local elections in wooler, saddleworth and truro. please visit our website for further information. i look forward to hearing from you.

What is a libertarian party? And why would you need one in a free country?

Although I would not agree with many of their policies and wouldn't vote for them, I would welcome the above organisation prospering - it would give people a real choice in political parties.
