--Power & Control:

Please note the warning because of the clout that lying can have:

(Proverbs 6:16-19) “16 There are six things that Jehovah does hate; yes, seven are things detestable to his soul: 17 lofty eyes, a false tongue, and hands that are shedding innocent blood, 18 a heart fabricating hurtful schemes, feet that are in a hurry to run to badness, 19 a false witness that launches forth lies, and anyone sending forth contentions among brothers.”

--Its amazing how the wrongful use of the tongue can really control people into doing things-
--Look at what Hitler did to millions of people by his obscene & lying tongue! Note how much power a false tongue has:

(James 3:2-9) “. . .. 3 If we put bridles in the mouths of horses for them to obey us, we manage also their whole body. 4 Look! Even boats, although they are so big and are driven by hard winds, are steered by a very small rudder to where the inclination of the man at the helm wishes. 5 So, too, the tongue is a little member and yet makes great brags. Look! How little a fire it takes to set so great a woodland on fire! 6 Well, the tongue is a fire. The tongue is constituted a world of unrighteousness among our members, for it spots up all the body and sets the wheel of natural life aflame and it is set aflame by Ge·hen´na. 7 For every species of wild beast as well as bird and creeping thing and sea creature is to be tamed and has been tamed by humankind. 8 But the tongue, not one of mankind can get it tamed. An unruly injurious thing, it is full of death-dealing poison. 9 With it we bless Jehovah, even [the] . . .”

This life of Illusion, where speech is overvalued. That´s what makes people "Lie". The strongest Idols "Actors" we call them, are the bigger liers. The whole movie is a gigantic two or three hour Lie. And we love it, have Oscar´s, Golden Globes and other "Worship Objects" to make it a bigger bussines. And when we Die, not a Penny we take!

Also many people hate Truth. They don´t want to hear it, they get Mad. This is the World of Illusion...we better keep Silence, so we don´t Lie too.

People lie for many reasons. Some people lie when they are afraid of the consequences of telling the truth.
Sometimes it's to do with peoples self-esteem. When they feel this is threatened, they immediately begin to lie at higher levels.
Not all lies are harmful. In fact, sometimes lying is the best approach for protecting privacy and ourselves and others from malice. Some deception, such as boasting and lies in the name of tact and politeness, can be classified as less than serious. But bald-faced lies (whether they involve leaving out the truth or putting in something false), are harmful, as they corrode trust and intimacy—the glue of society.

Sometimes people try not so much to impress other people but to maintain a view of themselves that is consistent with the way they would like to be. Some people lie to make themselves look better, and some lie to make the others feel better. Some people lie of love to achieve sexual gratification. Sales people will lie about their products to get commissions, children lie to avoid punishment, politicians lie to get reelected, job applicants lie on their résumés in an effort to be hired, insurance companies lie about coverage in order to sell policies, and doctors lie to health insurance companies about diagnoses to get reimbursed for their services. The list goes on.

For some, it is just a bad habit that they have no control over- it's an obsessive compulsive behavior.

For others, it is the inability to divulge the truth as a matter of secrecy- the truth will let others know more about them and their insecurities keep them from sharing the truth.

Then there are the born to lie losers, they just don't care - integrity is not a word in their vocabulary probably not even in their mind. Lying is more of a truth to them than reality....

some people never heard of the saying- "the truth will set you free".........and it does--firm believer of it.

People lie when they want to please someone without having to tell the truth about themselves. They hide the truth thinking that this person will like me if I say I'm like this or I have this or something to that sort. But what they don't know is one day all the truth will be revealed and their false identity is good for nothing.

You asked the wrong question! You should ask instead, "What makes people to tell the truth?".
Sometimes we do spill out the beans. Everybody is a born hypocrite, everybody is a born liar. We all keep deep secrets and always hide behind masks and lie to others about how we really feel about them.

There are a LOT of reasons to make a person lie. To keep from hurting others sometimes is a reason.

Nothing.... Nothing "makes" us lie. When we lie, we "choose" to do it. Fear of something may push us toward a lie, but it is we who choose to tell it.
