I just recently purchased a used laptop. It is a bit outdated but I love it! I am having a problem with extending my desktop onto my television, and I am trying to narrow it down to where I need to be.

The s video port on my tv has 4 prongs, the one on my laptop has 7. They are arranged so that the cord (4 prongs) can fit with both. Should the cord still work even though the ports are slightly different?

I also purchased a converter to change the s video into a regular video out cord and this has not worked either.
