Unfortunately, if a young GLBT person has a bad coming out experience with family and friends, they may feel they have no other way out. Or, if they have internalized homophobia (where they feel ashamed for being gay because of what the majority of society says, but still not being able to stop the emotional and physical attraction to the same gender) it may become too much to bear, and they may think that death is the only answer. It really is tragic. Of more people would just get their head out of their bums and learn the truth about sexuality it would erase so much heartache for young GLBT people.

Chronic rejection by family and society, for one. Also gays and lesbians generally don't have any role models or guidelines for dealing with their sexuality. And then there's the fact that only 10% of the population is gay, so the availability of partners is severely limited, and the consequence of guessing wrong can be severe. Take your pick.

because the pressure that comes with trying to be true to oneself about being gay, while still wanting to fit in with society is overwhelming.

many girls and boys come out while they are still young (as i did) and they just knew that they were gay/lesbian. but with that comes criticism about being too young to know, being made fun of by peers that think you are digusting, and worse than that...little support by family and friends.

i had fantastic friends, but my family (although absolutey wonderful now) was a nightmare. i was a straight A student, and captain of three varsity sports and had so many friends, but even for me the pressure to just end everything and the idea that my family did not support me was enough to get me thinking about suicide.

it does get better and eventually LBGT teens find a place they feel comfortable, but the pressure of trying to be a teenager, and being gay, with little family support can be unbearable.

All psychological studies show that lgbt are as mentally healthy as anyone else, so the higher rate of suicide can be logically assumed to come from cruelty from family and peers.

in my opinion, i do no longer think of Atheism has something to do with young ones, or any elderly individual, committing suicide. It probably has extra to do with bullying, melancholy, rigidity, fears and different such factors that have continuously been the path of suicide. whether you have confidence in a god or no longer shouldn't effect somebody's decision in taking their very own existence. a minimum of, this is my opinion on the undertaking.

because the pressure and hatred from society makes them depressed. trying to live up to what society and family expect of you can be devastating and tear a person up inside. society treats gay people like they are some waist of life and when you feel that ridicule especially in high school its enough to make someone take their life
