does child support stop automatically when a kid is 18? or does it continue if the kid goes to college?

in most states, it continues when the child is going to trade school/college.

if its not in the divorce papers, you can just file a motion with the county court house for the child support to continue.

In Pennsylvania they do not pursue child support once the child leaves high school or turns age of maturity ( 18). The only amount to be paid beyond that point would be arrears.
Remember, if you choose to support your child beyond 18 that agency cannot be involved in it becasue the person is not a child under the law.
Once they leave highschool enmancipation (sp) kicks in too.

Do not confuse the two though, child support is not the same as Parent's obligation for college tuition. Such as, Student loans requiring X amount from the parents of the student. this is not child support because it is not enforcable if not paid, the student will have to find another way to pay for college.

Depends on the parenting plan set forth by the court at the time. Look over the papers and see if it extends past high school, most of the time it will extend through college, then again will you kid go to college, if not it stops!

Some parents agree to pay support until the kid turns 22 so they can finish college.....it's whatever is in the actual divorce decree.....but, it is usually until age 18.
