I have a doctors appt next month to get birth control. I dont know what I should get. I want to try to get pregnant again the first part of next year. I just need something for about 9 months. I have 3 kids already and between them I was on the depo shot, but with that it takes me 18 months to get pregnant after I get off of it. Any ideas?

Unlike the rhythm method, Natural Family Planning assumes neither of these and is more than 99.5% effective.
The rhythm method (also called the calander method) is about 91% effective according to Planned Parenthood's website. I actually disagree. I would say that so many women who do not a standard 27-28 day cycle (and therefore who were probably not included in the study) would find this method to be MUCH worse. I'd estimate it was about 60% effective--having based this estimate on those given by Web MD. However, Natural Family Planning is a very effective way to space pregnancies. And it available at no cost and helps women to understand how their bodies work and what is going on inside of them. By charting only one's basal body temperature (the body temperature of a woman after at least 3 hours of sleep in a row), couples can avoid pregnancy 98% of the time according to Planned Parenthood's website. By charting only cervical mucus signs, couples can avoid pregnancy 97% of the time according to Planned Parenthood's website. However, by doing both in what is called the symptothermal method of Natural Family Planning, couples can avoid pregnancy by an even higher percentage. Although Planned Parenthood's website does not give this percentage, according to a recent study done by the secular University of Heidelberg (link below), the effectiveness rate was found to be 99.6%. This rate is indeed higher than any artificial form of contraception, and, of course, it poses none of the associated health risks that artificial birth control has. And it allows you stop at your own timing and can be used to achieve pregnancy as well!

if it is only going to be for nine months i would suggest a diaphram, condom or both. then when you are ready to try again you just stop using them and you have not added all the drugs to your body that birth control can add. bc uses drugs to control your ovulation and period. who nows in a couple of months you may decide to try again and then you have wasted all that money for gyno visits and bc. then after you have your next child you can simply begin using your diaphram or condoms again.

try the nuva ring. I've been using it for about a year now, and you can get pregnant whenever you want, just stop using the ring. someone else who answered this question earlier said the doctor inserts your nuva ring....WRONG. You put the nuva ring in yourself and you take it out yourself. Its just like using the pill but you don't have to worry about and remember to take the pill everyday.
Good luck

You could try the nuva ring. Your doctor inserts it inside and it is very easily removed. They say you can start trying to conceive as soon as it is removed. It is supposed to also be as effective as bc pills.

I have a IUD and I love it. I don't have to think about it, it doens't hurt and it's good for up to 5 years. And they say that you can get pregnant as soon as it's removed.
