When it's a person, we think, they're going to remember this, I better stick to my word, but when it's your work, you think you have time, it's not as important as a human being. It doesn' have feelings, it doesn't care whether I finish it or not. It's one of those things everyone can relate to.
Hey......you sorta' look like me...

A commitment involves ACTION - either doing, or refraining from. You cannot commit to a person and not have your actions be committed as well. Or it is just empty words.
"Why" does not matter. All it is, is a choice to do or not do. You can change your mind at will - the question is, do you want to, and will you do whatever it is, whether you want to or not?
It may be in the case of taking committed action at work or somewhere not your relationship, you are just not clear that you are NOT committed to taking the action. You can say committed all you want, but the fact is, if you are not doing the work, you are NOT COMMITTED and you need to just say you aren't. And, unless you can change your mind and do the work you may get fired.
Or if it is not work, you'll have whatever consequences arise from not doing what you said you would.

That's because people give you the positive reinforcement you require, but tasks & goals don't.
