Tricky question. But no. A cowboy spents more time dealing with cattle than with his horse. Rounding up the cows with your horse is only part of the job. Branding them, milking them, giving them medicine, and many other shores are part of a cowboy daily life. The horse is just a tool much like a wrench is a tool to the a mechanic.

They could've been called horseboys, but then the song "Mama don't let your babies grow up to be... horseboys..." wouldn't be the same.

No, since many of the early cowboys were black men who were called boys as a slur, hence cowboy.

well it gets lonely out there sometimes, so i'm guessing they gave a cow or two a ride every once in awhile.
