Not all African Americans use that word, I dont. Those who do dont believe that the racist meaning is still attached to it since they use it. They take it to mean a friend, my brother,my homeboy or something like that but if it really meant those things why get mad when someone of another race uses. I personally hate it because I think it is disrespectful, to those who risked their lives so that blacks wouldnt be called that, everyday of our lives. But their is a such thing as freedom of speech in this country and even though I hate it, you cant stop people from using it.

i do not discover "African-American" offensive in any respect. i'm of African descent for sure, and at one aspect there have been those of my bloodline that got here from and Africa and that makes up the overall public of me as someone. i could not are starting to be my darkish epidermis from ecu or Asian ancestry. i don't know what some thing else are called and that i don't know how some thing else experience about the note. yet me in my view, i locate it truly superb to be called African-American because that's what i'm. i do not take offense of having the note "African" and "American" in my identify. It basically says that i'm of African descent and that is were my roots come from which i'm happy with (in spite of the undeniable fact that I actually have not in any respect been to African, I nevertheless descend from that continent) and that i'm proud to be an American. Whites can do what they want to with their identify or in spite of. yet i attempt to be more beneficial positive in the use of "African-American".
