It's not religion. It's ignorance, lack of respect, lack of communication, lack of understanding, lack of education and mostly no desire to have any of those things. In other words - being Bull headed and opinionated with a closed mind to the point of not being able to agree to disagree.
You can completely remove religion from the planet, and people would find something else to fight over.

Religion is not the cause of all problems, although the intolerance of religion does contibute quite a lot to the worl-wide problems that we have today. But these cause even more trouble:
1. Predudice
2. Greed
3. Addiction

If man didn't have religious differences, there would not have been so many countless deaths through the ages. Take the Crusades, for example. The Crusades were a series of military conflicts of a religious nature waged by Christians from 1095-1291, usually sanctioned by the Pope in the name of Christianity. Thousands upon thousands lost their lives and for what??? It's crazy!

It is interesting. I don't know the best answer to that but look at all the wars that have been started over religion. They go back farther than most history books. Many problems start from religious beginnings but I don't think all.

No. But, I think it is the root of many problems. This is a diverse society and religion is only one of the many diversities. My philosophy is be and let be or live and let live when it comes to this question. Who am I to tell people what they can or can not believe in?

Not at all.

Religion, however, has been a great motivator as a source of solution to many problems, including the fact that religion-based schools and hospitals and orphanages and services to the poor and other activities help make this world livable.

The inability to respect others with their contrasting views and ideas is what creates the problem.

We can all discuss, or debate different viewpoints, the object is to listen and try to understand others views. I have often held a belief or idea, but having discussed with others and listened to their views have amalgamated the better parts of my view with what i believe to be the better parts of anothers view and reached a more informed and complete view point.

Its what is known as working together.

While I agree with most of the posters, there have been wars throughout the dawn of man in the name of their "god." They aren't the cause of ALL problems, but certainly have a strong influence. I believe religion builds intolerance.

Religion is not the cause of problems. Religion simply states rules that people should live by.

By the way, I am not religious.
