A mother board form 5 years ago suports 512mb per slot "1gig" total. I looked up an answer for someone on yahoo answers, the board they were looking at had 4 slots for memory, and supported a total of 16 gigs of ram!

most modern mother boards up to 4 years old will support 1Gb off Ram newer ones support more

Most modern motherboard now support 1 gig of RAM but you still have some that will not . Always check on your motherboard manual for details of how much RAM it will take and the type of RAM needed
