A mother board form 5 years ago suports 512mb per slot "1gig" total. I looked up an answer for someone on yahoo answers, the board they were looking at had 4 slots for memory, and supported a total of 16 gigs of ram!

Most modern motherboard now support 1 gig of RAM but you still have some that will not . Always check on your motherboard manual for details of how much RAM it will take and the type of RAM needed

Anything you buy today will usually support at least 3 gigs of ram. Many support even more.

I hate to tell you this, yet i do no longer think of your card could paintings very nicely. the reason I hate to tell you is using fact that's not for the reason you think of. Your card is extra cutting-edge than that laptop you're staring at. Your card is likely an 8x AGP card. The motherboard purely has a 2x/4x AGP motherboard. that's been a whilst for the reason that I worked with those, they'd clock down. yet back, that laptop is older than your card, i would not purchase it till it fairly is $10 with loose transport, or maybe then, i could ought to think of roughly it.

Most likely, yes. To make sure, you can go to a RAM seller like crucial.com and have its online scanner check your system. Among other things, it'll tell you how much RAM your system can support.

Probably - depends what you call modern. Take your machine online to www.crucial.com for a review of what you have and recommendations about RAM. You don't have to buy your RAM from them.
Hope that helps.
