I don't buy the whole 'supply and demand' idea. At least, not anymore...

We've allowed conglomeration of the oil industry. We used to have laws in place to prevent monopolies, but somehow we've allowed them to slip away, or at least be ignored. When you take competition out of the picture, it is easy to charge whatever you want for the product.

Economics will tell you as price increases, demand decreases. But what we have here is a commodity that is hard to cut back on, as people are living where they are, and working where they are, and driving the vehicles they own. It will be hard for them to get out of these vehicles until they're paid off.

You also have a government that is very friendly to big business (Democrats as well as Republicans), and aren't likely to look into these high prices until the next election cycle.

To me this is a short term pillaging of the working class for the benefit of corporate stockholders. The real irony is if these elevated prices ever end, they will be looking for government assistance because their profits are down.

So this is not supply and demand, this is rape.

For the same reason it goes up in the Winter, Spring and Fall.

Free markets squeeze all they can from the idiot consumer.

Only when idiot consumers walk, stay home and drive a bit slower will prices decline, due to a glut that's swiftly the result.

I love high gas prices...coz there are fewer robo-cops out in the desert trying to nail me for earning a living at 3:00 in the morning...

Drive as if you have no job. You'll see the price of gas become irrelevant, regardless of its cost.

Americans are so thoughtlessly wasteful, and deserve much higher prices.

I believe that the price goes up in the Summer, especially for Spring Break, because of the amount of traveling people do for vacations.
The prices always skyrocket every time summer starts and major holidays approach.

greedy a$$ oil companies making a profit on us.keeping us home just so we have enough gas to go to work (barely).must eat hot dogs for the rest of life so we can afford gas for cars.loose homes cuz some a$$hole wants a full bank account,(at least we have our car to sleep in---no gas but its a roof over our head.Raise the price of everything cuz it depends on oil to make it or deliver it to us.I just cant figure out why a gallon of gas can go down to $1.89 just 2 months ago an shoot right back up to $2.49 today.(can you say price gouging boys and girls?)How can human beings screw other humans like this and why (Greed?)Im tired of prices going up and wages going down.We need someone in office that has a set of balls and take care of our own and not make life easy for other countries.

More people travel in the summer causing the oil price and demand to rise. Then the price sky rockets.

It's a simple supply and demand Curve. During the summer people drive alot more and use more fuel. Demand goes up. When demand goes up, price will go up as well. one of the most fundamental principles in economics.
