Hey there, a friend of mine is having a formal going away event this sat. and im one of the people who would be called up on stage and asked to say something. I dont really want to talk about our 10 year friendship with strangers so id like to just say something meaningful. We both had great interests for films and film scores so if you could relate it to that, that would be great. Thanks. A good 3 min. speech would be good enough

Well, the whole idea of having you speak is because YOUR thoughts would be meaningful. Nothing I could fill in the blanks with would be on the same level as your insightful comments regarding your friend.
Which is not to imply that your words should be of an intimate or emotional nature. Just touch on the things that you think are significant and be honest with what you say. I often find that simply stating the obvious facts relating to the matter at hand lends a gravity and impact to the event, (and fills in time)

U should describe the good times you had together and how u will miss them. Put in something like, “Our times we spent were like a movie. Once you see it once, you want to see it again.” Just put ur feelings to it.
