I am a 21 year old healthy male. I am having bad lower back pain and constant leg pain. I go to college, and work part-time at a local restaurant bussing tables now for 3 years. The bussing trays are real heavy, which could probably cause my back problems. This has been going on for 2 weeks now, what should I do? Chiropractor? Doctor?

Go see a Orthopedic or Neurologist Doctor. With your legs hurting from lower back pain indicates you have a pinched nerve from a ruptured/herniated disc.

If the damage/injury occurred at work, you need to report the injury to your employer because it would be a workers comp. injury and your employer would be responsible for your medical bills and temp. disability payments to you while you are off work.

DO NOT GO TO A CHIROPRACTOR! Some people swear by them and I guess I would concede I probably just came across a bad one. I went to a Chiropractor and he adjusted my back/neck 3 times per week for a month and it just continued to get worse. I went to a Orthopedic Doctor where they did a MRI and guess what, a ruptured disc. The Chiropractor should have x-ray me prior to making corrections but he did not follow the standard of care with me.

Feel free to see my profile and e-mail me if you have a specific question.

GOOD LUCK!

Back pain with pain radiating down either leg indicates a pinched nerve....go to your doctor & insist on an MRI.....I had this a couple of years ago after a near fall on a slippery floor & wasn't offered an MRI until after 18 months of excrutiating pain.....it was then found out that a nerve had been damaged by 2 ruptured discs & I was left without the use of my foot or proper feeling down the right side of my calf, foot & toes on my right leg.....

Because I'm very flexible & didn't have any back pain at all the consultant assumed that as I could still touch my toes....my back was fine, I was packed off to a chiropractor....worse thing that could have happened as they manipulated the area on my lower back & buttock...well from that night & for the following 8 weeks I was laid up in the worse pain I've ever experienced & I've had 5 children but having them was nothing in comparrison to the pain I went on to have...
I was dosed up on morphine for about 8 days, went to hospital 3 seperate times for help but their attitude was as I could still walk [albeit limited] then it couldn't be my back, they kept telling me I'd pulled a muscle.

Well, they all couldn't have been more wrong...now I'm trying to fix things myself very slowly by exercises...I'm getting there, I'm not one to give up....

I don't think I'll ever have total use of my foot again though as the nerve was permanently damaged, I was left with what's termed a "spinal cord injury"....the results of which was "foot drop"....get a proper & thorough examination honey, they can only tell properly with an MRI......good luck & don't let anyone fob you off.
I wish I hadn't....I've had to relearn how to walk again properly, how to jog & have recently re-learned how to run again. I had to re-learn how to cycle again too & it's been a long haul trying to get back to normality.....
