usually when im in a family picture, we all look relatively nice looking, like we put a little effort into it, but only a casual amount. shoes do seem a bit clumsy but only if they are like big freaky tennis shoes or dirty flip flops or something. if you find something that goes really well with what you're wearing, that'll work, but if you are going very casual, i think barefoot is fine. try to coordinate with the other people in the picture so like it isnt half of you wearing shoes and nice stuff and then the other half barefooted and casual, or heaven forbid one person doing that.

I'm also planning for a family portrait at the end of the month. After doing some research, here are some things I've found that might be helpful for you:
1. Defintely match your outfits for at least 1 or 2 poses.
2. Try different looks if you do a full length shot with jeans. For my family portrait, we're all wearing white shirts and jeans. We're going to have a more casual photo taken barefoot, and then a more classic one with shoes. Because my mom, sister and I are all so different, we're letting our shoes dictate our personalities. I'm wearing classic, black, but trendy pumps, my mom is wearing sandals, and my younger, artsy sister is wearing some funky flats.
3. Also, it's a good idea to try and have an idea of what kind of portraits you want when you go in. If you want to experiment with different looks, make sure the photographer knows so they allow you enough time. Do you want to wear all black with a black background? That's a great look. Are you doing color, black and white, or both? Try to have a game plan.
Hope this helps!

it depends. You'll want your entire family to tie into each other somehow, i.e., all wearing white or cream, all wearing different shades and then mom wearing a scarf with all colors in it, like that. Nothing wrong with jeans and t-shirts. I got a Christmas card this year with jeans, white t-shirts and bare feet on the picture. Really cute!

Where what you feel most comfortable in. with the exception of the Rubber Ducky pajamas, lol
personally, if its a family photo you should try to wear something a little more dressy. No suit and tie or frilly dress, just ,like, khakis and a polo , or if your a woman a trendy skirt and top. As far as shoes go, if it is a standing photo, nice shoes, otherwise who cares ? noones gonna see them, lol

You could try wearing just your underwear, and then get lots of your favourite clothes, shoes and accessories photographed seperately!
Once you have done this, you could cut out all of the pictures of your clothes, shoes, etc, and apply some blutack to the back, allowing you to change what you look like according to the seasons must have fashions!! :)

Wear somehting that you'll look back on and say, 'wow, I looked good in that!' It could be jeans and a t-shirt, but I reccomend something a little less casual, like a tunic and skinny jeans and a long necklace.

if it is for a family portrait i would suggest you to dress smart. Wear a black dress. jeans and t shirt will look too casual. you could also wear a nice skirt and a top. I have seen a really nice outfit at Next. Black top with matching black top. website is next.co.uk

I would probably dress a bit nicer, but as long as everyone in the protrait is dressing down, then it's ok. My recommendation from experience is to wear a solid color --- no stripes. They end up looking silly. Choose something simple and classic that you won't regret years from now.

I think trying a spring theme would be good. Boys blue shirts and khakis, girls purple and khakis. Sandals on adults bare feet on kids.
