He started tossing last week. Now, that is very different than "throwing." He is expected to miss the entire 2007 season and be ready for 2008. They held off on surgery as long as they could and they're paying for it this year.
In '08 Santana will be in the final year of his contract, so Twins fans will get a chance to see them both healthy for a full season. Tommy John surgery takes over a year to recover from, but pitchers usually come back a little stronger than before.

Minnesota Twins pitcher Francisco Liriano hopes he'll recuperate from elbow surgery in time to start throwing off a mound in October.
"I won't start to throw until two months from now, and I'll do my first bullpen work six months later," Liriano said Friday.
In his rookie season last year, the 23-year-old left-hander went 12-3 with a 2.16 ERA. He had ligament replacement surgery on Nov. 6, and recovery time is usually at least a year.
Liriano said he felt pain through five starts without telling the team, and that could have aggravated the injury.
"I decided to tough it out, even though now I know I shouldn't have," he said.

i wish to work out Liriano obtainable too, yet you won't be able to hurry into getting this guy in the season, if its too quickly. he will be there quickly adequate and that i cant wait. he's a plausible cy youthful style pitcher. we favor him exceedingly undesirable, if he needs time enable him have it.

i dunno, but i hope he gets healthy, i picked him up on my fantasy team...
the thing is, i dont trust the team reports on when players will come back. When he was originally injured, they put him on the 15 day DL, not the season DL. Now what!?!?
They said Carson Palmer might never play again due to the injury he suffered at the hands of the greatest sports team on Earth...the Steelers!!! Well, he nearly led the Bengals to the playoffs, but then he was stopped by the greatest team ever...the steelers!!
A friend of mine has torn every ligament in her left knee (they had to use her hamstring to fix it) and she can still play soccer! thats incredible! they said she may never play normally because of the multiple sugery but now shes captain of the high school team!
Hines Ward was not expected to even walk normally because of a weak ACL he had while he was a kid, and now hes a Super Bowl MVP!!!
case and point: i dont trust the doctors when they say he'll return next year or in october.
he'll return a week after the all-star break

Out for the season. Precious cargo, too precious to risk rushing him back, since he is only -- what? -- 21? No. He should take his time, make a full recovery; we'll see him in 2008.

all that sick, filthy, nasty junk he threw at the dish last year shredded his joint. don't count on hearing his name again for at least another year. at which time he will be mentioned along with the other great slerve baller to destroy his arm with unconventional angles, kerry wood.
